PURPOSE OF THE JOB 

The Chief of Staff to the CEO is responsible for supporting the CEO in working effectively with internal and external stakeholders and in fulfilling her commitments as a thought leader for BCBSAZ and for the community. The Chief of Staff must be highly strategic and facilitative, exhibiting a combination of focus and flexibility, and must play a proactive behind-the-scenes role to support the CEO. The Chief of Staff must commit to error-free work products necessary for CEO representation.

Required Work Experience 

  • 8 years’ experience working directly with senior executives to achieve their desired outcomes 

  • 6 years of project management or matrix work environment experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, Healthcare Administration, Marketing, Clinical or related field

Preferred Work Experience 

  • 5 years of experience leading the design and implementation of change management and communications strategies in a complex organization

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Support and ensure alignment among members of the CEO’s executive team (manage Executive Leadership Team weekly meetings and action items; own, facilitate and distribute CEO Dashboard; coordinate and drive execution of special projects and activities requiring team alignment, etc.) 
  • Coordinate, orchestrate or lead special projects, as directed by the CEO. 

  • Oversee CEO communications, including emails and memos, videos, presentations, press releases, articles, etc. 

  • Ensure the CEO’s goals and objectives for the organization are reflected in all executive-level and organization-wide communications. 

  • Prepare and facilitate content as needed for CEO- led meetings (Board of Directors Meetings and Retreat, ELT Retreats, Affordability Council, etc.). 

  • Develop content to support the CEO’s thought leadership both internally and externally.  

  • Maintain a current knowledge of external issues facing the organization and identify information that warrants incorporation into executive messaging. 

  • Support alignment with the Board of Directors by facilitating the creation of monthly board update with metric reporting dashboards.  

  • Monitor quality performance measures, develop and maintain effective workflows, and seek to maximize system efficiencies. 

  • Manage use of corporate funds including budgeting, financial management, and reporting. Identify opportunities to achieve administrative efficiencies while maintaining service. 

  • Maintain effective working relationships to ensure COS team is achieving corporate goals. 

  • Participate in strategic planning activities and contribute to departmental and cross-functional teams to achieve corporate goals. 

  • Coordinate activities between multiple divisions to achieve desired results. 

  • Support BCBSAZ’s core value of improving the health of Arizonans, by volunteering with, serving on, or supporting community organizations. 

  • The position requires a full-time work schedule. Full-time is defined as working at least 40 hours per week, plus any additional hours as requested or as needed to meet business requirements.

  • Experience serving as a corporate spokesman with media or professional/community organizations. 

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities.
