PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • Manage the lifecycle of all commercial products and services, including development and implementation of strategic offerings and enhancement of existing products to drive membership growth and profitability objectives.
  • Drive market research initiatives for product concept testing and network analysis. Create market and competitor product analysis/profiles to determine BCBSAZ position, including evaluating new market opportunities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PRODUCT MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

  • Bring products to market from ideation to market launch and implementation using a continual and systematic product development process.
  • Manage the design and development of new and revised products including benefits, member cost share, pricing, and provider network(s).  
  • Collaborate with other areas including, sales, finance, underwriting, actuary, IT, operations, marketing and other stakeholders in the organization to identify the business, operational and system requirements needed to implement products.
  • Research ideas for new products or product changes by monitoring the competitive environment, industry trends and BCBSAZ primary research. 
  • Track enrollment and financial performance of new or revised products to quantify their success
  • Define and communicate information regarding target markets and key selling points to sales, brokers/agents, advertising, creative services, and public relations as appropriate
  • Develop a product intelligence network consisting of Blue plans, vendors, and category experts from which to draw insights and analysis
  • Interpret federal and state regulations and legislation to determine product portfolio impact, parameters of product design, and implementation issues.
  • Lead the product application process with the state and / or federal government to make available to the market group health plans that attract our targeted customers.
  • Conduct market analysis to develop product definitions and maintain knowledge of current market trends and competitors’ products in order to reach market segments.
  • Serve as product advocate, creating and presenting promotional messaging and education to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent product team needs in ensuring technical tools supporting product and systems transition activities are well-informed.

  • Oversee day-to-day departmental administration by coaching and motivating staff to make maximum use of experience and skills.
  • Monitor quality performance measures, develop and maintain effective workflows, and maximize efficiencies.
  • Identify opportunities to achieve administrative efficiencies while maintaining service.
  • Maintain effective working relationships to ensure teamwork in achieving corporate goals.
  • The position requires a full-time work schedule. Full-time is defined as working at least 40 hours per week, plus any additional hours as requested or as needed to meet business requirements.
