This position is hybrid within the state of AZ only.  This hybrid work opportunity requires residency, and work to be performed, within the State of Arizona.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

A Data Integration Engineer focuses on designing and maintaining systems for seamless data exchange through secure, scalable APIs. This role requires expertise in API development best practices and strong JavaScript skills for creating RESTful APIs and dynamic data integrations. Responsibilities include troubleshooting data flows, optimizing pipelines, and collaborating with teams to meet business needs. Proficiency in tools like Node.js, Express.js, and API testing frameworks is essential, along with a commitment to problem-solving and staying updated on integration technologies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Level 1 - Performs job functions under general supervision or peer review

  • Collaborate with development teams on API development and governance of standards and best practices.
  • Provide consulting and guidance on BCBS API standards
  • Design and deploy new APIs and enhancements to existing APIs
  • Refactor legacy data integration methods/processes, to modernized and optimized solutions
  • Research, analyze, track and resolve basic production problems
  • Participate on small to medium scoped projects
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to data architecture, mapping, & processing
  • Work autonomously and responsibly in an Agile/Scrum team
  • Ability to write User Stories when needed, size & estimate work efforts, and diligently track burndown progress

Level 2 - Performs job functions with moderate supervision and peer review

  • Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
  • Conduct research on data integration solutions to justify recommendations and to support solution strategies
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of enterprise data integrations
  • Coordinate and participate in code-reviews
  • Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
  • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to development teams.

  • Facilitate, Lead, & Collaborate with other architects on enterprise strategies and standards
  • Provide vision and direction on vendor management strategies and insourcing efforts
  • Lead, Coach, and Mentor less-experienced staff
  • Evaluate high-level project information and assess project components to forecast work effort required
  • Provide peer-level review and mentoring to levels 1-3
  • Participate and/or lead large- or complex-technical projects
  • Act as primary operational contact for internal and external customers when needed /  in the absence of manager
  • Ensure Service Level Agreements between department and operational or technical areas are met
  • Lead, develop and mentor staff by providing opportunities for growth through delegation, training, and assignment to various project teams
  • Inform manager of any issues impacting the efficient and effective performance of the department including system, resource, and informational barriers; Provide timely feedback to team member on performance
  • Assist manager in the day-to-day operations of the department

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Data Integration: Experience with ETL processes, data pipelines, and middleware platforms.
  • Data Formats: Familiarity with JSON, XML, and other data interchange formats.
  • Database Management: Knowledge of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).
  • Intermediate proficiency in spreadsheet, database, flow charting, and  word processing software
