Purpose of the job

The BI Administrator is responsible for ensuring that our Business Intelligence (BI), Reporting and Analytics platforms are available for service and can support the demands placed upon it from applications across BCBSAZ.

  • SAS, Tableau and other BI platforms system administration and database management, license management, hardware and software performance tuning, data modeling, design, development, monitoring, capacity and utilization, application security, archiving, backups, disaster recovery, user support, training and documentation based on BCBSAZ corporate policies, industry best practices, and customer-based business requirements.
  • Coordinates with analytics and data science department management, SAS / Tableau / Other BI platforms developers and analysts, to configure and support SAS / Tableau / Other BI platforms applications, provide end-user support for BI platforms users, develop simple and complex reports using SAS, Business Objects, Tableau, PowerBI, and other data access tools, provide user support and training for data structure and use of the Corporate Data Warehouse and other information repositories, create mapping specifications from source systems to new and expanded business intelligence systems, and design, test and implement new business intelligence systems.

  • 5 Years - Experience in information technology or computer systems, including experience with networked software and operating systems
  • 2 years - Experience in planning, design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products
  • 1 year - Experience in SAS administration, syntax, and programming
  • 1 year - Experience in Tableau administration, syntax, and programming
  • 1 year - Other BI Platforms (PowerBi, Business Objects, DOMO, etc.)

Level 2

  • 8 Years - Experience in information technology or computer systems, including experience with networked software and operating systems
  • 5 years - Experience in planning, design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products
  • 3 years - Experience in SAS administration, syntax, and programming
  • 2 years - Experience in advanced SAS administration
  • 3 years - Experience in Tableau administration, syntax, and programming

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

LEVEL 1 - Performs job functions under general supervision or peer review

  • Collaborate with the Cloud Services team and infrastructure staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of SAS / Tableau / Other BI Platforms Servers for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Respond to urgent alerts, incidents, requests, and perform problem management.
  • Contribute to the team’s knowledge base with useful information such as adopted standards, procedure documentation, problem resolution advice, etc.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade SAS / Tableau / Other BI Platform Servers as required.
  • Maintain the SAS / Tableau / Other BI Platform environments, including installation, patching, metadata, and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation.
  • Interact with vendor technical support staff to resolve issues.
  • Ensure that servers are backed up appropriately, and that recovery of data is possible.
  • Implement and manage SAS / Tableau / Other BI Platform Servers security to provide appropriate levels of access to users.
  • Documentation of SAS / Tableau / Other BI Platform Servers configuration and security policies / procedures, programs, systems, manuals, etc.
  • Represent area in internal meetings

LEVEL 2 - Performs job functions with moderate supervision or peer review

  • Provide recommendations and consultation on the design to maximize efficiency and performance.
  • Assist with tuning jobs and processes within the environments.
  • Develop and maintain hardware and software requirements for multiple systems
  • Create and implement standards, processes, and procedures related to infrastructure setup, platform administration, security, upgrade management, monitoring, capacity planning, and disaster recovery.

LEVEL 3 - Performs job functions with minimal supervision

  • Responsible for Enterprise SAS / Tableau / Other BI Platform Servers infrastructure architecture, design, and planning
  • Responsible for Enterprise SAS / Tableau / Other BI Platform Servers infrastructure build, development, maintenance, hardware, software and support
  • Responsible for conducting enterprise level server, OS, and RDBMS research and staying in tune with industry best practices for the development of business intelligence solutions.
  • Develops strategies for data acquisitions, archive recovery, and implementation of SAS / Tableau / Other BI Platform Server databases.
  • Monitors ongoing projects with regular status reports to management.
  • Learn area’s direct flow; and how it affects surrounding systems and operational areas end to end
  • Develop data driven time estimates and project schedules based on prioritization and business requirements

ALL LEVELS

  • Each progressive level includes the ability to perform the essential functions of any lower levels and mentor employees in those levels.
  • The position requires a full-time work schedule. Full-time is defined as working at least 40 hours per week, plus any additional hours as requested or as needed to meet business requirements.
  • Collectively responsible for the uptime and health of the company’s SAS / Tableau / Other BI Platforms environments on a 24 x 7 basis. Provides rotating on-call service (FTEs only).

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Required Job Skills (Applies to All Levels)

  • Intermediate skill in use of office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, scanner and telephones
  • Intermediate PC proficiency
  • Intermediate proficiency in spreadsheet, database, flow charting, and word processing software
  • Working technical knowledge of current software protocols and Internet standards to the extent that they apply to SAS / Tableau / Other BI Platforms systems administration.
