PURPOSE OF THE JOB 

Provides oversight, direction, development, problem resolution and leadership related to the analytic reporting tool used to monitor trends by external brokers and clients as well as internal departments. This position will make sure appropriate data is in the tool and provide leadership related to usage of tool and the data within it. This will allow users to accurately review and analyze data to assist with healthcare strategy. A key component of this position is working with the vendor and internal departments to prioritize and implement projects. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Required Work Experience 

  • 5 years of working in a flexible, customer-centric team environment while leading cross-functional initiatives and/or projects.  

  • 5 years of healthcare experience or health industry experience 

Required Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, business, finance, statistics, or related field

Preferred Work Experience 

  • 10 years of experience in data science, data analytics & reporting or scientific analysis

  • 5 years of financial experience on customer-facing or customer-driven projects

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Ensures data extracts are delivered to vendor by agreed upon deadlines with data from appropriate data sources. Works with internal departments related to data quality questions. Working with internal departments and vendor, determines the best way to provide data in the tool to show information requested by internal and external partners. Provides leadership and direction on what new information should be added into the tool. Developing a strong understanding of the company’s business strategy and data sources is key. 

  • Serves as an internal consultant to define business questions, transform data and analysis into meaningful and actionable information for a variety of customer segments and helps end users interpret and apply analytic results. This includes working with internal partners to understand the changing landscape of health care and the company’s strategy, which should lead to recommending new ways to analyze data.  

  • Supports and fosters relationships with external stakeholders, including vendor. Works with external stakeholders to assemble collaborations and facilitate partnerships that create value in health care. 

  • Plans and leads complex projects from inception to completion ensuring projects align with strategy of the company. Includes working independently on creating timelines, working with other areas to define deliverables, monitoring progress, implementing the project and resolving/monitoring post-implementation issues. 

  • Enhances user experience of the reporting tool. Provides formal and informal training to users assisting them with the creation of reporting and analytical insights. Transforms disparate data sources into strategic knowledge. Communicates updates and changes to the tool timely. 

  • Monitors contract requirements and evaluates/recommends additional or different tools/modules that would meet the analytical needs of the company.  

  • Works collaboratively with other Analytics & Data Science members to drive the overall success of the goals of BCBSAZ.  Maintains effective working relationships to ensure teamwork in achieving corporate goals.  Trains others on financial and analytics topics as appropriate.   

  • Drives and executes complex and critical initiatives with minimal oversight. 

  • Manages informal relationships to get things done in the absence of direct reporting lines. 

  • Works with team leaders and management to vet, refine and prioritize new project ideas. 

  • Develops multi-year strategies, priorities, and roadmap for analytics goals.  

  • Serves as analytics advocate to internal customers. 

  • The position requires a full-time work schedule. Full-time is defined as working at least 40 hours per week, plus any additional hours as requested or as needed to meet business requirements. 

  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with colleagues, partners, and vendors.
